The audio pioneer has introduced its completely new Grotto 12 And Grotto 15 Subwoofer with the company’s largest and most powerful hybrid woofer systems to date. Following the launch of the Dynamo Foundation, Dynamo and Abyss series in August 2024, the Grotto 12 and 15 offer extreme performance and sophistication for larger spaces.

MartinLogan Subwoofer Evolution: From the Descent to the Grotto series
MartinLogan has built its reputation on electrostatic speakers, and for good reason: these panels are state-of-the-art when it comes to openness, transparency, and speed. Detail and air? Unsurpassed. But when it comes to chest impact, the panels simply don’t move enough air. Since the introduction of Monolith electrostatics in 1983, dealers have heard the same question over and over again: “What do I combine with these devices to achieve true low-end sounds?” In 2001, MartinLogan finally had an answer with the Descent series of subwoofers.
From then on, they’ve steadily refined their low frequency game, adding depth, texture and features with each generation. The last update came last year with the aforementioned three new subwoofer lines.
MartinLogans Abyss series delivers compact, powerful bass with its hybrid woofer system – an active aluminum woofer paired with two passive radiators for rich, powerful performance. The Abyss 8 ($1,399.99) uses a Magnitude MT-1kW amplifier with 500W RMS/1,000W peak, while the Abyss 10 ($1,899.99) goes up to 800W RMS/1,600W peak with the MT-1.6kW amplifier.
Sitting above the Abyss models in MartinLogan’s lineup, the new Grotto 12 and 15 subwoofers offer larger hybrid woofers and up to 2kW peak power for even more power and room-packing bass, making them the first choice for larger rooms or listeners wanting maximum impact.
The middle level is this Dynamo seriesavailable in sizes 8, 10 and 12 inches. Like the Abyss, it offers modern amenities – Wi-Fi functionality, room correction and an app that doesn’t look like it was programmed in 1997.
At the entry level, the Dynamo Foundation series offers the same drivers but is skewed downwards, eschewing the wireless bells and whistles and remaining wired-only for a more affordable price point – without veering into boom box territory.
