Since the news spread, the fallout from the breakup has played out in a somewhat public way. David has already broken his silence on their split while Lily has made comments about her Miss me? Podcast alluding to cheating rumors that surfaced earlier this year.
In an episode that aired in March, Lily specifically told her co-host Miquita Oliver: “Age is particularly awkward when you get validation through the attention of men, which is the case for me… They seem to like it young, don’t they?”
“Older women are better at recognizing the unattractiveness of men than young, stupid women,” she later said, “which is why men essentially like them young and stupid.”
Well, Lily just gave an interview to British Vogue in which she made some rare comments about her split from David — and she also played new music to the publication that seemingly alludes to the cheating rumors.
When Lily was asked if David would remain present in the lives of her two children, whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper, she replied: “You’d have to ask him.” “Me and Sam, we have a good relationship – I wouldn’t say it’s a friendship, although we are friendly,” she added. “His father died earlier this year and we spoke on the phone a lot at the time because I loved his father and we have children together. Obviously we talked a lot over the last year about what we’ve been through as a family over the last year and he had concerns, and yes, we co-parent.”
“My children had a great experience living in America for five years and I have great sympathy for my ex-husband,” she added while talking about David. “I think we’re all suffering.”
The profile also reveals that several songs on Lily’s upcoming album specifically relate to her marriage to David. One song, “Sleepwalking”, contains the lyrics “You let me think it was me in my head / And nothing to do with them girls in your bed”; Another, “Dallas Major,” includes the lyrical aside: “You know, I used to be pretty famous / I should probably explain that my marriage has been open since my husband went astray.”
“There are certain things that I experienced in my marriage, but that doesn’t mean it’s all gospel,” she said when asked about those specific lyrics. “It’s inspired by what happened in the relationship.”
