Jack Nitzsche was not just a background – you know the guy who appears and makes things “nice”. Nitzsche was an American musician, arranger, composer and record producer, who started his start as the right man of Phil Spector in the early 1960s. From there he worked with the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and others before scored in the film.

Nitzsches score for Cuckoo In 1975 the heads turned. This tendon in the opening and closure? Pure nightmare fuel. And the wine glasses? Just a foretaste of his off-kilter approach, which felt the score anything but normal. Sometimes it sounds almost after a quiet, sunny day on the off-road, when they ever let us out-or of the unfortunate fishing trip, which we all remember too well. It is nervous, worrying and exactly what the film needed.
Fast lead to this day, and it is easy to see how influential this score is really – to cause modern film music, while this creeping, uncanny tension remains alive. Finally, a publication in the format that deserves is one with which these haunting, provocative compositions can speak for themselves.
