The meaning of luxury has changed in the world of interior design, and I like it very much! In the past, luxury marble floors meant rare exotic hardwoods and shiny surfaces that are supposed to impress. The focus was more on the procedure than on the practicality and the way in which interiors feel. Today, luxury is about reluctance, thoughtfulness and a feeling of connection, not about wasteful excess. Designers now create spaces that combine elegance with sustainability – interiors that look sophisticated and feel restoringly. Natural materials play a major role. As you probably know, I prefer natural materials to artificial or a combination of both. I love the look and the feeling of wood and the warmth that it radiates – our wooden kitchen is a perfect example! Wood is also incredibly versatile and durable for various renovation projects and usually ages beautiful. Maybe that’s why the design world includes natural textures in luxurious, modern interiors.
The next project for our house will actually be the washroom, which will contain wall cladding. If you have not lived under a rock, you will probably realize that the wood paneling is currently very trendy. Wooden veneer, once regarded as material behind the scenes, which is used exclusively by tables, finally gets the attention that deserves. Although it has been overlooked in the past, its characteristics mean that it is not only ideal to create warmth and improve acoustics, but also very versatile. It is an easy way to have a major influence with minimal effort.
Here are some tips on how to rock, which has refined the ecological luxury look:
Luxurious language
You know the saying “Money talks and prosperity whispers”. The same applies to interior design. If you look at the upper end of the market, you will find that the interior design landscape has slowly developed. Luxury now speaks in much softer tones than before. I know that the term “calm luxury” is currently being overdated, but that’s a pretty good example of this. We move from the creation of show houses in the direction of rooms that reflect much more sensibly, more tactile and their owners. The colors in 2025 are darker and richer, and the texture is everywhere. The layers of fabrics and lighting are incredibly popular. All of these things contribute an enormous departure from Stark, minimalist White.
Wellness and mindfulness also play a major role in all of this. Inniors are now planned for natural light, acoustic comfort and biophilic design, since people want houses who want to promote the “positive mood” and impress the guests. I am really very excited about eco -conscious interiors, since this trend coincides with a growing cultural emphasis on mental health, calm and connection to nature.
What’s in?
I am so happy to see that sustainability is the core of the interior design. People want to know where their materials come from, how they are made and what effects they have on the environment. Veneer is a solution that matches modern, environmentally conscious sensations: by cutting wood into thin leaves and uses veneer in the manufacturing process far less raw wood and at the same time captures grain, sound and character of the tree. The result is authentic, but the environmental impacts are far smaller than that of solid wood products. Amazing, right?
Environmental product declarations are still widespread for wood products, so that designers and homeowners can make well -founded decisions. I know that some of them probably never check them, but that changes slowly. If I had to choose between two identical products, I would select the sustainable option. The certification also has weight: The FSC logo is immediately recognizable and younger buyers in particular expect to see it when choosing furniture or surfaces.
Öko-Chic in practice
How does sustainable luxury work in practice, in real houses? Ultimately, it is important to combine sustainability with good design. Minimalism has not completely disappeared, but it is softer. Instead of white austerity measures, we see how rooms enriched with texture with the route, a ribbed closet in walnut veneer, a matte stone work and a linen clothing that feels. This is minimalism with warmth, and veneer plays a central role in the awarding of these rooms.
The color palette has also developed. We move from Pale Scandi Oak in the direction of darker, more atmospheric forests. But my personal favorite is of course the mixing of forests! Walnut with lighter grains like ashes creates a nice contrast and a nice depth without appearing too difficult. The inspiration from the Milan Design Week 2025 was also a great source of inspiration with highlights such as sculptural furniture and rich natural surfaces. I love a curved, veined console or a corrugated sideboard with a warm finish that can immediately give your room a touch of luxury without trying too much. Think of a natural mood, cozy acoustics thanks to the wood and lighting that changes all day. All of these things help them create a quiet, small retreat, and in particular wood and veneer fit so well in the feel-good trend in the sanctuary.
Current trends
As you know, I am careful when I talk about trends. While I think you should design your home around the things you love, trends can be a useful source of inspiration. The warm minimalism increases and I love the calm, clear interior that is enriched with natural materials in this trend. This is similar to the “Scandi -Maximalism”, in which layers of forests, patterns and colors within a Nordic scaffold give rooms a eclectic flair without losing clarity. Another topic that I am a big fan is structural details. Surfaces look both tactile and visually, from curved cupboards to ribbed activities. This is probably the reason why we decided to include a wall table in our washroom. I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but it’s not just about how trendy and stylish you are, it also has a function (I promise!).
To summarize it
I think the main reason why veneers and wooden panels have recently become so popular is that they are affordable and easy to install. Trust me, we are not DIY experts and did everything ourselves. Wood surfaces also make breathtaking feature walls that bring warmth and texture into any room. They can also be easily equipped with lighting and hooks, which contributes to their versatility. Drilling through it is much easier than drilling through the plasterboard. I can’t imagine any disadvantages to have them. And if you are concerned that this trend is out of date, simply use it in smaller cans.
If luxury looks like this today, we can all agree that it is a good thing. It looks calmer, warmer and more sensible in many ways, isn’t it?
