Step 1: Switch off your heating and isolate the water supply

Before you touch a wrench or cooler, safety comes first. Make sure that your central heating system is completely switched off. Take your time to cool the water within the system – this helps you to avoid burns and other injuries. Isolate the cooler next from the rest of the water system of your house. Most modern heating systems enable the isolation of the individual coolers, but if yours are not, you may have to switch off the entire water supply temporarily. This step is crucial to prevent water from escaping when you remove the valve.

Step 2: Drain the cooler

As soon as the heating system is switched off and the cooler is isolated, it is time to let go of the remaining water. Use a radiator blood key to release the pressure and leave water from the ventilation valve, which is typically available on the cooler at the top. Make sure you place a container or towels below to catch a fleeing water. Be patient because it can take a few minutes for the entire water to flow completely.

Tip: If you replace a valve near a wooden or carpet, put a plastic film or an old towel for additional protection.

Step 3: Remove the old valve (if applicable)

If you replace an existing valve, you have to remove it first. Grab a wrench or an adjustable wrench and loosen the compression nuts that attach the valve to the cooler and the pipeline. It is important to keep the pipe calm with a wrench while the mother turns with another. This prevents unnecessary stress on your pipe connections and avoids cracking or breaking. As soon as it has been relaxed, remove the valve carefully. Be prepared so that a little residual water can escape and keep this container or towel in case at hand.

Step 4: Prepare the new valve for installation

Put on the compression nuts by hand so that the threads are aligned and use your steps to secure them. Be careful not to exceed – this can damage the threads or adapt the adaptation, which leads to leak or alignment problems.

Step 6: Fill up the radiator and bleed again

With the new valve and all connections, it is time to restore the water flow. Gradually turn the water supply back in and let the water fill the cooler. You will probably hear something bubble or gurgle when air escapes from the system. As soon as the water flows into the cooler, use your bloodstock again to release an enclosed air from the ventilation valve at the top. Step 7: Check for leaks

As soon as everything is safe and tasty, switch on your central heating again. Monitor the cooler for a few minutes to ensure that it is heated evenly and the new valve works correctly. If everything works as expected, you have completed the job!
