Our change of garden in Woodland style: 2025 update

Our garden is in the works, but we’ll get there slowly. It is a mature garden that requires a lot of work and we start every task for ourselves. I adore the design in Woodland style and intend to keep it that way. We crop a little more every year to make maintenance easier, but it was the lush forest garden that sold the house first, and I am just so grateful that we can enjoy it every day.

Robot lawn mower

Let’s start with the most expensive and life-changing purchase that we made this summer-Husqvarna 310e Nera Robot lawnmower with GPS! We have dreamed of having a robot lawn mower for ages, and we have finally won the jump this year. Our garden is quite large, so cutting the grass was the most boring task ever. I also love the look of freshly cut grass and I knew that it would always look perfect with a robot lawnmower. We chose the Husqvarna 310e Nera model for convenience and quality. We bought the lawn mower with the kit and installation, but if you are looking for an upgrade, you don’t need these extras. I knew I would love the new robot lawn mower, but I had no idea how much! It is calm and cuts a little grass every day, so the lawn is always well maintained. In the app it is easy to see which part of the garden is cut next, and although it loses its Wi-Fi connection from time to time (because it was under a tree), you can easily reset it. It is the best investment that we could have made for this garden!

Garden bed edges

Our old wooden round tree post fell apart and had to replace. Although we received a few expensive quotes from landscapes to repeat it, we decided to try it ourselves. We ordered the tree trunks from Amazon and then I was colored with a dark wood color. I am as happy as it turned out! It was a bit difficult to install due to the uneven ground, but I think my husband did a great job. I can’t comment on the durability yet, but I will keep it up to date.

Garden wall decoration

It is funny how the small details always make a difference and the same applies to garden decor. We painted our shed last year, but it looked a little simple, so I added a wall decoration that I found on Ebay. It mixes in quite well and almost looks as if it were part of the shed.

Furniture

I hate dyeing the teak every year, but it is worth preserving the beauty and condition of the furniture. For this reason, however, I am quite hesitant to add too much wooden furniture to our selection. Rattan is much forgiving, but I love the contrast to the teak catcher and the pretty hydrangeas.

Succulent pots

Succulents and cacti are the perfect summer plants for your garden. Just make sure that you won’t get too wet. Although our garden is primarily a forest and wild flower garden, I still like to offer contemporary furniture and accessories. The contrast between green and shiny surfaces such as metal and glass works really well.

IN FLOWER

I love this time of year. All flowers bloom and the fruit trees and bushes begin to produce their annual plants. We had a lot of raspberries this year and the grapes look promising. It is not guaranteed that it will get grapes every year, since the plant sometimes brings a little break, especially after a big harvest. Last year we gave the Chardonnay plant a thorough pruning and added fertilizer to the ground. If you make sure that the leaves do not block the sun, it also helps them grow. I can’t wait to harvest them in September.

It is astonishing how quickly the plants grow in summer. This limit has to be cleaned up, but if I fly all butterflies and bees from one flower to the other, I would like to leave it a little longer.

What we do next

As you can see in these photos, our forest style garden is quite overgrown at the moment. If you have dreamed of buying a house with a large, sophisticated garden, you will be warned that maintaining will take a lot of time and money. We later booked a tree surgeon for an annual visit, which is essential. The last time we only cut back a little, but this time we will reduce the size of the plants and trees much more. This is mainly due to the fact that we found that they grow back incredibly quickly and really start to block the view. Don’t get me wrong; I like my privacy and I enjoyed living in a forest, but we live in suburbia and we have to keep things in chess. It will also be much more manageable. I really enjoy cutting the smaller bushes myself – it’s actually quite therapeutic!
