The three blissful days that I spent in Épernay, champagne, last week seem to be a distant memory. I had planned this trip for a long time and am happy to share my favorite hotels and wineries as well as some inspiration for interior design.
It was my first time in the champagne region, but it will certainly not be my last! I was surprised to find out that the trip of the car only took five and a half hours. We took the Eurotunnel to France and it was so easy that I regret not doing it earlier. I mean, who would not love a road trip, if champagne is waiting for you in the end, are I right?

We were in Épernay, just ten minutes on foot from the prestigious Avenue de Champagner. Like Disneyland, this street is side by side for champagne lovers with several champagne houses. It is impossible to visit them all, so it is a good idea to narrow down their favorites or maybe stay a little longer. I loved all the old buildings and architecture. It was definitely a feast for the eyes and mouth.

Moet was one of the most famous and largest champagne houses in the Avenue de Champagner. We did a cellar tour and did a wine tasting, and it is definitely worth a visit, even if you are not interested in wine. We even got past your external bar for another glass of champagne and some nibbles that I would definitely recommend to expand your to-do list. The people who watch here are a lot of fun!

The building itself is impressive and perfectly designed, with the touch of old-world size continuous. I thought it was great how modern furniture had been placed in such an old building. It is exactly my street up. We even exhibited Napoleon’s hat in the lounge – and yes, it was the right thing! Apparently he was a big fan of her rose and was quite close to the founders. The amount of history that this place comprises is only amazing. Interestingly, the Moet et Chandon wine cellars stretch up to 28 km and last over a billion bottles of champagne. I learned so much about champagne and French history during the tour, which was worth it.
Favorite company
We visited several wineries and focused on smaller, less well -known producers. De Venoge, Mercier, Beaumont des Crayères And Blial bar are just a few examples. It was nice to try something different for a change, and I found the champagne delicious and underestimated. Obviously we brought some bottles home from every winery and brought home.

There are many fabulous hotels in the area, and if – or rather, if we go back, my two top picks would be the divine Royal Champagne Hotel, which is only 10 minutes from the city center of Épernay. The view and the interior design were breathtaking and I loved the horse theme. The Horse and Rider -Logo represents Napoleon and recognizes its effects on the history of the region. I would say it is the most luxurious hotel in Épernay. However, it is relaxed and not stuffy at all.

The flower chandelier was absolutely breathtaking! One day I would love a smaller version of it in our house.

Another hotel that was worth visiting was the Hostellerie Briketerie & Spa in champagne. This charming boutique hotel has 40 newly renovated rooms. The interiors are a combination of modern coolness and old charm. Some of my favorite interior design details were the tree wall and the preserved oak rays. The Gein Restaurant is also worth a visit. We enjoyed an interesting and creative tasting menu with wine pairing – perfect for a special occasion!
Day exit
It is definitely worth a day trip to the nearby villages. We visited Hautvillers, the birthplace of Dom Pérignon, who was a active but fun day. We also enjoyed a wine tasting in the nearby Bliard-Labeste winery, followed by lunch (at Au 36) and a hike organized by Hautvillers Tourist Office. It was a really memorable day – I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday.
Uber/hiring of a driver
We drove from Great Britain to Epernay, but we have no gels to drive to the wineries or vineyards. You can easily rent a driver for the day or use Uber. The options for public transport looked quite limited, so I think it is definitely worth stopping a driver for a few hours or a day. I also saw a lot of people on e-bikes who looked funny, but if they live in the city center, you can easily access Avenue de Champagner on foot.
Souvenirs
While I was there, I bought some champagne articles that I could show in a separate contribution. We found some beautiful champagne flutes that were specially made for one of the champagne houses and some wall art. We also brought champagne home, but I don’t have much shopping because our main goal was to discover new champagne brands and enjoy a nice mini break.
It took me a long time to finally visit the region, but I loved it every minute and the convenience to get there did even better. We didn’t have enough time to go to Reim this time so that it has to wait until our next trip. As you can imagine, I will soon have back. After all, champagne is only a few hours away – it would be crazy not to visit more often!
